Save the Grug developer. Go back to monke
I’ve spent years throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks. It doesn’t. My brain is a bucket filled with holes, and the only way I can remember anything is to write it down.
But starting a blog in 2026 feels like a trap. Do I use Substack? Heaven forbid, Medium? JAMstack with a headless CMS? Why do we have so many layers for something that should just be a static site?
The “Old Web” was messy, but it was human. We don’t need React or Vue to build a goddamn static site. I’m starting this with Hugo, but I’m one bad day away from deleting it all and just writing vanilla HTML and CSS.
All that I needed to make this blog fit under 100 KB (100 KB club lessgooo). Sometimes I wonder: isn’t writing massively over-engineered apps just another symptom of the dev world’s wasteful mentality? I can just deploy a static site for free on so many platforms, so why go for a massive pile of JavaScript?
So, this blog is going to serve as a notebook on whatever I’m trying to keep from falling out of my leaky brain. Nothing particularly fancy, just the way I’ve begun to prefer my web experiences.
grug say: write simple, build clear. let’s return to monke
